Gut Feeling
Dr. Incognito, Hey, I just connected to the show. It appeared as if I was not receiving the signal for the first half hour. I noticed I missed "Fascination", which I do not listen to in decades (seriously). Could you please include in yout show Gut Feeling by Devo? I would appreciate it immensely. I am getting ready to fax my response to Means. Have a nice day LincolniteAugust 26 2008, 16:08:29 UTC 3 years ago

Dr Dr
Listening from the Dream Hovel today. All my nasty biopsies came back benign, so I am a happy cancer free mama with one twin daughter pushed out of the nest in Austin starting college tomorrow and the other draining my wallet at Ikea heading off to Rutgers in a few. I am too giddy being healthy and alive to notice how broke they are making me.Anthony, you must learn how to punch a hole in the firewall. I did it when I worked at Monsatan (they make nasty stuff no doubt but they treat their employees really, really good, great company all the way around from the worker bee POV) by telling our IT I had applications I had to use that the firewall kept mucking with (which had some degree of truth), so they gave me an IP that punched through and bingo, hello world! I wasn't supposed to use it long term but it was nice to have and sure as hell made my day better anytime I wanted. Go for it, be creative and make some IT geek your friend.
Great day & great music,

Re: Dr Dr
Excellent news on the test results!I am trying to get a promotion to an IT geek adjacent position. I would work a normal shift then and should be able to get admin rights to my machine and be able to install unauthorized software!

Re: Dr Dr
Hey! Great news on the test results. Yay! Lots of good medical news lately -- a guy from my hometown who was paralyzed in an auto accident a few weeks ago is now moving his arms and legs and the doc says he'll walk again. Not a miracle (hello -- unless I see laws of physics defied, there's no reason to even think about going there), but still fantastic. The twins are splitting up! Wow. Are they identical? That'll be quite an adventure for all involved. UT-Austin and Rutgers? Good schools! Guess they wanted to blow out of Illinois? We apparently get a deal on tuition if our kids stay in-state.
Speaking of computers - I was just talking to someone about how she had managed to get her computer turned on and is now receiving WDBX online. I said "Don't fear the computer -- it's just a sexy appliance!". She'll be playing poker online in no time, I told her.

Re: Dr Dr
Twins are fraternal but they look so much alike it is scary. Both got partial scholarships to out of state schools and the Rutgers one made it cheaper than any state school for Katie. It was big. Plus, they tested out between a semester and almost a year of undergrad classes with AP exams, so they have a big head start. They are smart little shits and good students. That all sounds great, right? Well, they are both undeclared majors. If they finish in four years, I'll be popping champagne. They kind of have ideas of what they might want but aren't sure, so I am just sucking it up and hoping they don't take 5 years like my ex or me.
It is OK because they are both 17 and I don't expect them to know or worse yet do what I did which is spend three years in Chem Engineering and quit because I hated it. And then have to start from scratch with all these Chem E classes that did not transfer to anything at all.
Twins need to split up at some point. They are constantly compared and lumped together like a single person. But this first year will be brutal for them. And me too, I think.
I am so happy to be healthy I have not really processed that my nest will be empty next week. One day at a time.

Re: Dr Dr
It does sound great! I worry about some of those AP kids, though. I've seen freshmen take a 300-level genetics course their first semester, and that often doesn't end well. Just remind them -- DON'T GET BEHIND. That's the killer. They soak up college for a couple of weeks and then hit that first exam and things sometimes get ugly. I sure as hell would've been eaten alive if I'd taken a 300-level course in anything as a first-semester student. Of course, AP courses weren't an option at my school in the northern wastes...Yeah, I can't imagine being a twin. Fascinating but aggravating, I would think (especially for identicals). It will be a brutal but fascinating year for them. I'm surprised they're jetting off almost to opposite ends of the country, but I suppose if you're more than a few hours' drive apart, it makes no difference to them. Not like they'd see each other a lot if one went to Northwestern and the other came to SIU... Good luck to them (and you)! Enjoy your healthy freedom!

Re: There is no word of the day
Not yet! We're working on it. Someone called and suggested "stealth", but I think that's a bit too familiar. We like weird words!Anonymous

Ooo...that's better than stealth, but maybe still too well known? We'll see!Anonymous
